Note: The Beacon Government track is separate from the core Beacon Fellowship, which focuses primarily on consulting.

WHAT IS THE BEACON government TRACK?

What we do: run substantial internships at foreign government entities abroad. The Beacon Government track allows students to fully immerse themselves in a foreign government entity. Each 4-week program allows students to explore topics such as economic development, international affairs, and environmental policy in Portugal’s capital city of Lisbon. Fellows will discover the rich cultural heritage of Lisbon, which The Guardian describes as “a place so beautiful you can’t believe people are using it to live in.”

WHY LISBON?

Lisbon is an exciting, beautiful, and affordable destination where Beacon Government Fellows can immerse themselves in a beautiful environment. Forbes says that “Lisbon is the affordable European city you’ve been dreaming of visiting,” and CNN says it “could be the coolest city in Europe.” As the New York Times puts it, “I don’t think Lisbon needs any recommendation beyond the blessed fact of it. It warranted attention and favor years ago and will warrant them years hence.”

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The program fee of $3999 covers housing, local transportation, travel health insurance, and some meals.
